Top Ten Star Wars movie Moments (up to Episode VII)

Luke vs Darth Vader

“It was long (time) ago / and it was (in a galaxy far,) far away…”
Jim Steinman via Meat Loaf – (paraphrasing) “Paradise by the Dashboard Light”

(WARNING: THIS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE STAR WARS MOVIES, INCLUDING THE FORCE AWAKENS)

I hate to break it to Star Trek, Doctor Who, Final Fantasy, Lord of the Rings, Superman, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe fans, but the #1 franchise in sci-fi/geek/nerd culture/fandom is Star Wars – and there is no close second.

One reason why the Star Wars franchise is on top of the sci-fi chain, and has acclaimed so much popularity amongst the pop-culture mainstream is because of all of the “OMG!” moments the films have produced. Even the snobs, haters, and hipsters who take pride in not seeing any Star Wars-related media, are forced to admit knowledge of some Star Wars references due to its omnipresence for almost 40 years.

The most Frequently Asked Question to me in 2015 was, “When is the new Star Wars movie coming out?” Granted, it was the last of the tentpole sequels to be released, but my point is that no one cared about Terminator: Genisys, Jurassic World, and Avengers: Age of Ultron, (rightfully so. Nor did they care about Mad Max: Fury Road, or Creed, (improperly so since these are really good moves that people should watch.)

I don’t need an SEO analytics expert to tell me that Star Wars-related posts are getting the most hits on my sister blog. So, in honor of the insanely anticipated release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Keith & I have recorded our favorite moments from the first seven Star Wars movies. (You can hear them on Episode #84 of Podcast Unlimited.) It was a blast making this list. I had just as much fun making that podcast, as I did watching Episode VII the morning it opened.

(NOTE FROM THE DEPT OF REDUNDANCY DEPT: SPOILERS FOR THE FORCE AWAKENS ARE INCLUDED. DO NOT READ UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE!)

I mentioned how my lists are just a reflection f how I feel at that particular moment, and that some lists would be completely different if they were compiled on any other day. It holds true on this list, and I just know we will revise this list in two years when Episode VIII is released.

(Note from Captain Obvious: We are only referring to the movies. We are not including the cartoons, video games, novels, TV specials, and all other media.)

With all that said, we’re all clear, kid. Now let’s blow this thing and go home!
