The Top Ten Ben Affleck movies

“You look up at me,
And somewhere in your mind you see,
A man I’ll never be.”

Boston – “A Man I’ll Never Be”

There are certain celebrities that are unlikable by a large number of people, e.g.: Gwyneth Paltrow, Alex Rodriguez, Ben Affleck. Maybe it’s because they are trying so hard to be popular, the insincerity is obvious. Another reason is overexposure. How can we appreciate you if you don’t go away? The bottom line is that hating Ben Affleck is so easy that it has become a cottage industry. But we’ve come to praise Ben, not to bury him….

The antonym of the phrase “Jumping the shark,” is “Growing the beard.” In simplest terms, it is the point when a show evolves from unwatchable to watchable. The trope is named after Jonathan Frakes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but a case can now be made for Mr Affleck as well. The clean-shaven Ben gave us an impression of a smarmy, immature snob. And some of his best performances is when he plays a character with these exact traits (e.g. Gone Girl). However, the hirsute Ben looks more mature, wise, and completely relateable. It also coincides with his second career: movie Director, a profession that both critics and movie goers agree that he is very good at. He is such a good director that many people have publicly wished that he usurps Zack Snyder’s directorial chair in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movie.

Since the state of Social Media in 2015 is that of a vast wasteland of Hot Takes, here’s a hot take of my own: Ben Affleck is underrated. And here is our lists to back that up.
