The Top Ten sketch comedy movies

“Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality.”

Queen – “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Sketch comedy is an under-appreciated art. Not only do they have to create funny jokes, they have to create iconic characters delivering iconic catch-phrases – all in six minutes or less. Now take that sketch, and extend it to a 90-minute feature film. That task is so daunting that the only thing tougher to make than a quality sketch-comedy movie, is a list of quality sketch-comedy movies.

Have you ever had a moment in which you had an idea that looked great on paper, but not-so-great when executed in real life? When you make 50+ lists, you’re bound to have one you immediately regret. (Technically, this is the second time this happened to us.) Because the pickings were slim, we stretched the category to include not only movies made by sketch comedy troupes (which was the original idea), but movies based on comedic sketches.

Bottom line, it is generally not a wise idea to make a list about sketch comedy movies if someone hadn’t seen arguably the greatest sketch comedy troupe of all time (and I’m not referring to Broken Lizard either.)

I promise you that we’ll do a better job next time.
